You gotta swim
Swim in the dark
There’s no shame in drifting
Feel the tide shifting
And wait for the spark

Yeah you gotta swim
Don’t let yourself sink
Just find the horizon
I promise you it’s not as far as you think

The currents will drag us
away from our love
Just keep your head above
Just keep your head above
Swim

The reality is that fat people are often supported in hating their bodies, in starving themselves, in engaging in unsafe exercise, and in seeking out weight loss by any means necessary. A thin person who does these things is considered mentally ill. A fat person who does these things is redeemed by them. This is why our culture has no concept of a fat person who also has an eating disorder. If you’re fat, it’s not an eating disorder — it’s a lifestyle change.

Lesley Kinzel (via curvesahead)

I will always reblog this because it is so so important.

(via infinitetransit)

I just want to nail this to every stable surface I can find. I cannot count the amount of times that I’ve seen fat folks being encouraged, cajoled, and even forced into behaviors that would be recognized as disordered eating/exercising patterns in thin folks.

Pretty much everything that’s done on shows like The Biggest Loser would be called out as pro-ana/pro-orthorexia in a thin person. Exercising past the point that it hurts, to the point where you’re throwing up, even injuring yourself? Berating yourself because you didn’t lose ENOUGH weight this week? Constantly talking about how fat is weakness and thinness will make everything better, about how you can’t stand to be your current weight anymore? Emphasis on weight as a sign of how much control, strength, and worth you have? Viewing food as bad, as a temptation to sin? Constant sharing and talking about tips on how to minimize food intake, how to lose weight?

That sounds exactly like every pro-ana/pro-mia blog I’ve ever seen. It’s also what fat people are told we need to be doing to ourselves until we’re thin.

2 step guide to having a beach body!

moraniarty:

keep-calm-get-skinny:

beautyembrace:

1) Have a body.

2) Take it to the beach!

I have a mere step in between. Step 1.5 - work my ass off until [I] have deemed it  sexy beach body. ;D

Physics says: go to sleep. Of course
you’re tired. Every atom in you
has been dancing the shimmy in silver shoes
nonstop from mitosis to now.
Quit tapping your feet. They’ll dance
inside themselves without you. Go to sleep.

Geology says: it will be all right. Slow inch
by inch America is giving itself
to the ocean. Go to sleep. Let darkness
lap at your sides. Give darkness an inch.
You aren’t alone. All of the continents used to be
one body. You aren’t alone. Go to sleep.

Astronomy says: the sun will rise tomorrow,
Zoology says: on rainbow-fish and lithe gazelle,
Psychology says: but first it has to be night, so
Biology says: the body-clocks are stopped all over town
and
History says: here are the blankets, layer on layer, down and down.

The other night I was Skyping with one of my best friends. She lives in Holland and I live in America, so we don’t get to talk often. I trust her so much, and every time we talk I just feel so loved. She’s amazing.

I was talking to her about cutting, and started telling her about how I sometimes take pictures of my self-harm instead of writing about it, or in addition to writing about it. I don’t normally show people the pictures, but I sent her a few. She had been sharing her screen with me because I’d been watching her draw something, so I saw when she opened the files.

She opened this picture, kept it on the screen for a few seconds, closed it, and opened it again in Photoshop. I watched, confused, thinking it had been an accident.

I watched quietly while she erased every line of blood, every scar, every cut from my body. I started recording the screen without thinking- I needed to be able to watch it again. I knew I would need to feel that sense of… relief. That there was someone in my life who knew the extent of me and could still see through to something beautiful.

I wanted to share this with you because I think it’s important. If you feel anything close to how I felt when I saw this, I’m happy. Because you should know that it’s possible to be loved, underneath the pain and the scars and the blood. We are all beautiful.

You’re beautiful, and above all, you are not alone.

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen on Tumblr. I’m crying so hard right now.

exactly what any friend should do!!!

Thank you all for the love and continued support while my dad battles cancer.

Update:

The medical insurance company finally got back to my family. They’ve sent a modest check that doesn’t even cover a 1/4 of the bills my parents have to pay. Apparently, this is only an initial amount while they continue looking into the claim. They didn’t give any designated time for when this will be done. We don’t even know if we’re getting more than this, which is frightening to say the least.

I’ve gotten some pretty terrible anonymous asks recently, which is why anonymous is now off. I don’t know why people think it’s easy asking for money. It’s not. I honestly would rather help my family by working, but I still haven’t found a job, and it’s been months. I honestly hate doing this even though I realize that my family needs help, and this is all I can really do.

So, if you can help my family out, please do so by clicking the link above or visiting my page for the button at the very bottom that reads “Donate.” There, you’ll also find a link right below the button that gives some background info about my dad’s cancer.

If you can’t donate, please reblog and signal boost. Thanks.

Signal boost.
